The application of Building Information Modeling leads to extensive changesin the realization process of construction projects. In addition to other aspects, this paradigm shift compared to traditional planning also has a significant influence on the work processes of the actors involved directly and indirectly in the planning. The aim of the work is to gain knowledge from the investigation of interdisciplinary planning processes with BIM using a case study and to derive potential for optimization from this. The process flows of the individual service phases and the interactions between the actors in the planning and execution process are analyzed. The following research questions are answered on the basis of the investigations.1) What do interdisciplinary communication processes and workflows look like in an integral planning process and what potential for optimization can be derived from them?2) How can this optimization potential be presented in a generic planning pro-cess and what requirements does this result in for the interdisciplinary work-flows, models and software? The work is an empirical-qualitative exploration based on a case study. The examination of the processes takes place on the basis of the structure of the HOAIproject phases. The analysis results show that the work processes from the beginning of the project are characterized by the simultaneity of the integration of the individual discipline-specific planning services to be coordinated and integrated into a Building Information Model. In this way, the key influencing factors in planning can be implemented early and cost-effectively. The greatest optimization potential for a generic planning process based on the analysis results is the Building Information Model, used as the central process and communication interface between the actors. All information is thus exchanged via the model and the additional effort of deriving different definition formats from it is eliminated. The service phases 1-7 can now be restructured into three service phases and the respective partial fee rates can be adequately adjusted to the planning effort.
