Abstract:

7Public bathing culture has its origins inantiquity. In this context, the ancient Greeks and Romans are considered the founders of this culture and bathhouses in Europe. This work deals with the development of the various forms of the bathing culture and the question of a contemporary, ecologically sound bath architecture and design language. The focus and starting point of the workis the bathing culture in the Bratislava region and the long tradition of spas in the country. Although the bathing culture in the region started to develop in the second half of the 19th century and flourished in the 20th century, it was mainly sports and summer baths that were built. Baths for purely recreational purposes are absent or inadequate. The first and for a long time the only recreational bath, Grössling bath, was built in 1895. The reconstruction of the bath can be seen as the impulse for the further development of the bathing culture in Bratislava. Slovakia has a high occurrence of thermal and mineral springs. This work is to show the not yet exhausted potential for it. It was searched for a building site, where the parameters: thermal spring, nature and recreation can be found. Due to the geothermal conditions, the special landscape, the proximity to the city and the good infrastructure, a building site was selected, which is perfectly suitable for these purposes. The building site is located on a lake that lies on the border between two villages that date their origin back to the 12th century. At this lake a concept for a thermal natural bath is developed, which is ecologically justifiable. The bath is mainly visited by day visitors from the region, but also from the nearby neighbouring countries. Due to the numerous vacation cabins in the area and the in-house small cabins, short stays at the lake are possible. In the future, the regionshould on the one hand attract many guests from the surrounding area, thus strengthening tourism, and on the otherhand offer a holistic recreational experience for its residents.
