We present to graduate and undergraduate students the recent developments in experiments with ultracold quantum gases (Bose-Einstein condensates and quasicondensates) at the Atominstitut and their applications to fundamental problems of modern physics. The latter include quantum measurement, the relation between the quantum and classical physics as well as building quantum simulators for quantum field theories, solid state physics, quantum gravitation (cosmology; quanta in the curved space-time).
