Abstract:
The field of Organic Electronics (OE) has become one of the main focuses of modern research motivated by the need for low-cost devices which do not rely on restricted resources of inorganic materials. In this regard so-called push-pull systems are promising scaffolds for various applications, e.g. light-absorbing mono-layers in cost-efficient dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC). In organic push-pull motifs an acceptor (A) and a donor (D) are linked via a pi-spacer. Impressive progress has been reported for polymeric and metal-organic D-pi-A systems while the implementation of organic small molecules is less advanced although advantages like processability, availability as well as the ease of synthesis and fine-tuning make them an obvious synthetic target. Ene-yne compounds accessible via thiophene ring fragmentation (TRF) offer an outstanding repertoire of possible modifications including 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions at the triple bond and sulfur-oxidation.
Thereby, electron-donating as well as electronwithdrawing motifs may be introduced. Thus, the combination of two ene-yne moieties within one molecule gives access towards push-pull systems via well-directed modifications. The main issue of the thesis is the realization of (spacer-extended) systems with appropriately substituted enclosing thiophenes for selective one-sided TRF followed by targeted sulphur oxidation.
Different synthetic strategies are discussed concerning their applicability. In order to present an example for the modification of the triple bond, conditions for 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrile oxides towards isoxazoles using imidoyl chlorides as stable precursors are evaluated. Additionally, a synthetic pathway for the implementation of a typical acceptor motif (R =dicyanomethylene) could be realized.
