Abstract:

Civil Engineering is characterized by the interaction of costs, deadlines and quality. On the one hand these three factors affect the execution process and on the other hand they have an increasing influence on the traditional office and documentation operations. In a time of increasing speed and efficiency, gathering, processing and analyzing of the relevant data must be done as quickly as possible together with adequate quality that allows complete tracking. The collection and representation of all data is a major issue, especially in the field of special civil engineering, due to the fact, that in many cases the documentation is used as to proof that the work has been conducted as planned. Based on those objectives the following thesis focuses on documentation and execution processes in the area of jet grouting. The creation of the documentation is a time-consuming process, which is performed by the technical staff at the construction site (site engineer, site manager). Since currently there is no formal description of the documentation processes and hence also no time estimates for those tasks exist, this work is putting together the necessary information to create graphics and description for the documentation processes and estimate necessary time for those. Based on a process analyses, that was done on two distinct construction sites, in cooperation with a construction company, the status quo of the execution and documentation processes was documented with the help of „Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN)“. Building upon the model, it was possible to get a better understanding of the information flow during the documentation as well as the time necessary to do the same. This helped also in understanding sources of errors and finding potential for optimization. The process analysis has shown that the current documentation process is characterized by manual data input and edits. Just the data logging during the execution is the only automated process part. The documentation material put together during the examined projects, is the basis for creating key performance indicators and effort values for the execution processes. With those data and the calculated effort values for the documentation process, the proportionality between those two processes is calculated. We will see that the documentation process is resulting in a work effort that shouldnt be underestimated.
