Fuchsluger, F. (2019).

In this thesis, a real-time torque observer for an inverter fed induction motor in a test setup for software and system tests of a 48V motor in the automotive industry is developed. The three-phase induction motor is used as a mechanical load for the 48V synchronous motor with an integrated electronic control unit (ECU), which represents the device under test (DUT) on this test bench. Therefore, the developed observer should model the behavior of the induction motor in order to estimate the mechanical load on the DUT in real time. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the achievable precision of the developed observer with the necessary measurement hardware. Therefore, a mechanical torque sensor between the DUT and the induction motor is used as reference torque in the measurements. This work is developed in cooperation with Robert Bosch AG in Vienna, who provided the test bench and the work environment for the practical parts of the thesis. The result from this experiment will be used as a basis for the decision if the mechanical torque sensor can be replaced by the observer in future test setups. The omission of the mechanical sensor will reduce the cost and the size of the developed test setup, which leads to higher availability of test environments, and therefore, will lead to an increased software quality due to a higher test coverage of the developed software. Moreover, the absence of the mechanical sensor with its elastomer coupling can increase the dynamic behavior of the system and decrease oscillations between the load and the device under test.
