Molecules can enhance sensitivity to new physics:
• BaF is heavy:
Enhanced sensitivity to fundamental symmetries
(electron EDM, parity violation, etc.)
• BaF has a small rotational constant:
Pairs of rotational states of opposite parity in 137BaF
can be tuned to near degeneracy using moderate
magnetic fields to enhance parity-violating effects
of the weak nuclear interaction
→ Laser cooling promises better statistics,
more efficient detection and higher sensitivity
