Abstract:

In the very north of Serbia, not far from the Hungarian border, lies the city of Subotica, once known as Maria Theresiopolis. In re-cent decades, this city has experienced numerous metamorphoses and today it is well known as the “City of Secession” due to a large number of works from the beginning of the 20th century. Exactly one of these valuable buildings is the former Hotel “The Golden Lamb”, later the home of the JNA (Yugoslav People‘s Army). Its facade, filled with elements of the Munich Secession, is of great importance and is located in the center of the city. However, the building has been completely abandoned and deteriorating for more than a decade. The aim of this work is, after a detailed site analysis, to determine what current problems the city is facing in order to find a new function for this building. By adapting the space to the newly established program, which should be used partly for the public and partly as coworking and offices, the building should be reactivated and brought back to life.
