The goal of this thesis was to evaluate the benefits and shortcomings of the full-potential ASW (Augmented Spherical Wave) method in its implemen- tation by V. Eyert compared to the standard ASW method. We begin by outlining the ASW method (chapter 1) and the full potential ASW method (chapter 2). We then proceed to the experimental findings (chapter 3) where we first explore the behaviour of the program with regard to computational speed. We will then take two exemplary systems: Si and the Heusler alloy Co2 AlTi. Silicon will provide an insight on how the method performs for systems with low space filling and low coordination. Looking at Co2 AlTi we will find that the FP-ASW is able to find realistic values for the magnetic moment in very weak ferromagnetic systems with a high space filling factor - contrary to the standard ASW method.
