Abstract:
After the "burst of the dot-com bubble", the Internet business has to evaluate new concepts. The keyword Web 2.0 describes a new collaborative approach to involve users in the design process of software. The Online-Encyclopaedia Wikipedia gives evidence to the fact that collective knowledge work results into a multiplication of individual knowledge. Therefore a prototype of a web-based literature database is developed in order to establish a social environment. This is realized by a document information portal that serves the needs of community knowledge management. The aim is to create a synergetic, growing and selfregulating information space where participants are able to subside and help each other. For this reason the technology Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) provides the comfort and user-friendliness of a Rich Internet Application (RIA). The knowledge management method PROMOTE, which is implemented as an application library of ADONIS, defines the semantics of the archived documents. The functional coupling of Ajax and ADONIS is done by the web framework ADOweb.
Furthermore Web 2.0 describes the metamorphosis of a user interface technology to a plattform. Blogs and Wikis are only the first pioneers of a new generation of applications which create collaborative environments based on the Internet. Tommorow's web will potentially provide the infrastructure of a virtual reality, because it relies on many functions, like participations and networking. Promising prospective success, Ajax creates browserbased applications which will compete with distributions on operating systems. The developed prototype, which builds a RIA on top of the Ajax framework RAP, proves this. Open source projects might become interesting for commercial companies because they can be used to drum up new customers. The foundation of a community is crucial whereby the software company BOC with its research project ADOweb can exploit unknown potentials.
