The Factory „Klarenbrunn" in Bludenz is an architectural jewel from the 19th Century and represents an important step in the development of the industrial architecture. This diploma thesis will contain a research about the preconditions why the western province of Austria was one of the most important and advanced industrial regions of Europe in the 19th and 20th Century. As an expansion of the already existing production locations "Bleiche" and "Lünersee" in the area of Bludenz the former spinning mill with its brick facade was constructed by the company „Getzner, Mutter & Cie" in the years 1884 to 1886. With a history of more than 130 years the factory experienced a Jot of changes and difficult economical phases. The preliminary designs for the factory were developed by an engineer from Manchester. The plans have been modified by the in Bludenz active builder Ignaz Wolf. Within only two years construction time the factory with its in Vorarlberg unique external appearance was realised. Since 2002, the complex of the former spinning mill is listed due to the architectural and constructive uniqueness, the significance for the city of Bludenz and the representative status for the history of textile industry in Vorarlberg. In 2015 the production was shut down and the site offered for sale. The new owner will create a center for handcraft and sustainability.
