The construction industry is considered the largest producer of CO2 and resource consumers, therefore sustainable and resource-saving constructions are essential for the future. At the same time, in the course of these ecological efforts, the planning services and planning processes for architects are becoming more complex and, not least, result in considerable additional expenditure in terms of communication with the client. So the question can be asked here, how the client can be convinced of an ecological, sustainable construction method. To answer this question, this diploma thesis investigates European and worldwide energy and climate targets such as national laws and energy policy guidelines. In addition, currently existing, energy-efficient building standards are described and funding programs of the Federal Government, the State of Baden-Württemberg and the Heilbronn Region are also presented with regard to their possible combinations. However, such support programs largely only promote energy concepts, while ecological construction methods are excluded from funding. A life cycle assessment of building materials or building construction as well as an analysis of life cycle costs (especially with regard to construction and heating costs) can be powerful arguments in discussions with the clients, which clearly emphasize the advantages and the great benefits of an ecological construction method. In this diploma thesis, the life cycle assessment of various design variants is determined by using a fictive building design using the software LEGEP: A conventional construction without and with ecological insulation materials as well as an ecological construction method. All three variants are compared in terms of life cycle environmental impact and construction costs. The building design is located in Germany. The reason for this is that my parents are planning a single-family house on this site. Based on this case study, the advantages of an ecological construction method are elaborated and presented with the tools mentioned above.
