When looking for suitable building materials, the terms sustainability, ecology, lifecycle costs, resource efficiency and recycling are becoming increasingly common. Sustainability consists of three aspects; one economic, one ecological and one social. Wood fulfills all three aspects. This renewable raw material has a positive effect on the environmental climate by serving as CO2 storage. Since the wood represents an environmentally friendly alternative to the usual building materials (steel and reinforced concrete), this work investigates the possible uses of this material for composite ceilings. The calculation of wood-concrete composite ceiling with notches as shear connection means a complex task, because there are many parameters on which the calculation depends. They are summarized in the parameter study. The parameters, which have only negligible influence on the load-bearing and deformation behavior, are anchored taking into account the previous tests and results. The remaining parameters are then examined. The three types of wood composite constructions are numerically examined, which are most commonly used. In addition to the two flat ceilings, namely nail-laminated concrete composite slab and cross laminated timber-concrete composite slab, the ribbed wood-concrete composite slab is also treated. Notches are used as shear connections in every construction. For spans of 5 m to 8 m, the influence of the shear stiffness as well as the possibility of optimization by increasing the number of notches is investigated. To determine the internal forces, the gamma method is used and the skeleton model after Rautenstrauch . For each ceiling construction and span, recommendations for the cross-sectional dimensions are formulated. The comparison of the total heights, ceiling volume, ceiling weights and material costs allows the formulation statements on resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness. If the total height is taken into account as the only criterion in the planning, the nail-laminated concrete composite ceiling is recommended. For the other criteria considered, the ribbed wood-concrete composite slab is the best choice.
