The available diploma thesis deals with a special form of farm estates of Northern Burgenland, the so called mansions. In particular, the historical and the current state of the farm estate terrain in Rohrbach bei Mattersburg, a municipality, are described. Basically the drawing up of the diploma thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter provides an overview concerning the historical development of the farm estates, as their past constitutes an essential element of Burgenlands identity. Furthermore, the connection between the various dominions and the farm estates over the years is explained. In the second chapter, for the mansions typical yard forms and village structures respectively are portrayed. The special characteristics of the various regional building styles result from the architecture of the farmsteads as well as from their arrangement. These historical building landscapes still mark vast regions of Austrias rural areas. The Village Museums and Open-Air Exhibitions as described in the thesis provide a good overview of the typical building structures. Based on the first two parts, the third and last chapter of the thesis is dedicated to the farm estate area of Rohrbach bei Mattersburg. A stock analysis and various photo documentations not only show the relics of the farm estate terrain but also give insight into the recent utilisation of the area, especially into its core, the so called „Fürstenstadl“. The rebuilding of the “Fürstenstadl” in the years 2016 and 2017 is analysed, referring to its positive and negative aspects. Taking these facts under consideration, two possible solutions are presented.
