New Zealander dream the „Kiwi quarter-acre dream“. That describes a house with three bedrooms in a calm and leafy neighbourhood. Yet, that dream represents the most common way of living. Auckland is not an exception. However, cost of living and real estate prices, missing construction sites and a distinctive population increase are reason enough, to make architects question the traditional dwelling and talk about innovative and sustainable concepts of living. The goal of this work is to analyse those topics concerning Auckland and further give an answer by creating a design. How can a higher density in case of residential housing be achieved, considering the local building tradition? How can a decrease in living cost be accomplished by sustainable planning? What additional facilities may upgrade the neighbourhood?
