The determinants of the development of Upper Austria are high settlement pressure and an ever-increasing traffic load due to motorized private transport, largely caused by commuter traffic. In 2017, the state government of Upper Austria passed the spatial development programme (Oberösterreichisches Landesraumordnungsprogramm 2017), in which objectives of state development are further specified: Among other objectives, the programme comprises a focus on catchment areas of public transport concerning settlement development. Further, a moderate raise of density (population density and site occupancy) in the catchment area of the stops is to be strived for (see . 2, Z2 lit e, Oö LA 2017, LGBl. No. 21/2017). For this reason, building land potentials are to be investigated along the S-Bahn system, which was introduced in the end of 2016. In the course of this work, corridor investigations along regional railway lines in Upper Austria are carried out by means of GIS analysis. Here, quality criteria (eligibility criteria/ exclusion criteria) for building land are defined in order to find out which kind of space potentials exist and how the location quality of the existing train stations can be assessed. The digital method developed in the course of the work allows rapid, scenario-specific examinations by automation using Python scripts. Scenarios can be tested by varying the parameters. The level of detail of the investigations extends down to the level of properties and building plots. This allows multiscale considerations at both regional and local levels.
