la casa dei rifugiati - house of refugees - spatial densification in the Mediterranean context In this thesis, the theme of a refugee residence is discussed in the context of the island of Lampedusa, regarding the special situation of the small Italian island in relation to the phenomenon of migration waves of the last decade. The proposed project, of a relatively large scale - very impacting on the urban design of the island, builds an architectural task that allows an exploration of the spatial densification in contemporary Mediterranean architecture. A concept that is strongly based on the synergy between architecture and urban development arises. Furthermore, the theme of the interior and exterior space, main and secondary space, comprehensibility and privacy are investigated. All this with special regard to the very specific design task, the resulting usage type, as well as the impact on the surroundings, and in response the search for a conscious architectural language.
