Inspired by the Maggies Centres in the United Kingdom, this project focuses on designing a new building for cancer patients. Care+ empathises the importance of social and psychological aspects of treatments, at the same time as fostering these. In addition to increasing cancer treatment in Vienna, Care+ tries to be the missing component in the fight against cancer by fostering social interactions between cancer patients. By focusing on counselling and increasing the expertise of patients, the burden on doctors and patients should diminish. Care+ is a meeting point for people with cancer, as well as their families and friends. It offers the opportunity to inform, learn, exchange, recover and gain strength away from sterile hospital environments. The building in the Tigerpark Vienna tries to rethink more than treatment methods and buildings. In order to show off the potential of urban places, a new building will be added to existing fire walls and the front of the building will be reoriented to face the park. This organic design is characterised by newly created outside spaces which open up the new building on different levels towards the existing park, expanding it horizontally and vertically.
