This is a story about a restless man, walking through the night, deranged and thrown off the tracks, searching and confronting himself in the course of the night. The city is a mirror of his dreams, passions and anxieties. The story is located at the Viennese «Westgürtel», a diverse urban area dominated by traffic, but with a vital nightlife as it provides clubs, bars and brothels. At night you can meet very different people like night workers, drug dealers, homeless people, dog walkers, partygoers, or those who just commute from one part of the city to another one. Now, this project examines the emotions and the modified perception, which the urban night evokes. All the illustrations are based on movie-specific tools for creating room like framing, editing and narrative perspective. These tools offer possibilities to transform the real, physical room based on the individual beliefs, visions and feelings of the characters. The focus is therefore on the subjective spatial perception of the protagonists. Part One contains the theoretical background of this project. It examines the origins and the development of urban night, the applied method, based on cinematic space, the site of the story the «Westgürtel» and a brief portrait of the protagonists.
