Time Study and Determination of Characteristic Values Regarding the Managerial Personnel's Expenditure of Time in Construction Projects in the Field of Civil Engineering and Infrastructure The optimum use of the production factors in modern Austrian construction industry, similar to what may apply in other sectors, is an important aspect in the management of construction projects. However, in the construction industry it is all about realizing this principle by using individual work schedules for each project according to the circumstances. Construction companies are facing increasing challenges when planning and optimizing processes of the performance program: Technical requirements of their clients are rising and execution times are getting shorter.^ ^In the execution of construction projects the companies are continuously trying to make optimal use of their production factors, which comprise human resources, equipment, materials and the construction managerial staff as a forth factor, in order to generate the necessary profits. The construction manager and his team are responsible for the disposition of the other factors: They make use of the planning documents and appropriate indicators and plan, organize and control the labor input of industrial personnel on construction sites as well as the use of equipment, construction and auxiliary materials. Unlike the first three factors, the scheduling of the managerial staff itself is currently based on experience and the costing of completed projects only. Especially in the area of civil engineering and infrastructure we are simply inadequately informed on the managerial personnel's expenditure of time necessary to complete their various tasks on construction sites.^ ^The durations of the individual execution processes of the performance, for example setting up the formwork or laying and fixing of reinforcement steel, can be determined on the basis of expense values. In contrast to that, there are, however, so far no suitable characteristic values for site managers, building technicians and foremen, which would provide us reliable information about how high is this personnel's working time consumption for the completion of each managerial task. Therefore, the present study particularly deals with the determination, description and analysis of the managerial personnel's expenditure of time used for processing tasks on the construction sites within all fields of activity. Furthermore, the focus is placed on the determination of characteristic values describing these expenditures. In this thesis these values are referred to as 'Stundenaufwandswerte', being pictured graphically in charts as absolute terms as well as proportional values.^ ^For establishing the plausibility of the recorded time data, they are being compared to values within the literature. While interpreting the data using influencing variables, it is being noticed, that there is an impact on the duration of various tasks due to existing construction disturbances.
