Due to an announced architectural competition about the expansion of the pedestrian area in the year of 2017, the city of Dornbirn also released a feasibility study for a market hall. The old existing “PSK-building” in the city centre has been empty for a long time and should be demolished. The emerging urban space should get a new use. This situation is perfect to build a market hall. The market hall should be an addition to the already existing weekly market and should also be a place of enjoyment, which also attaches importance to regional and seasonal products. Various analyses determines the orientation and the size of the project. Because of the additional need of a covered venue for events, the object has space for social functions and events in the upper floor. With those multifarious utilization, the market hall orientate itself to the demands of the present and is an enormous upgrade to the city. The historic centre develops in conjunction with Dornbirn‘s urban expansion, thus the project should be a counterpart to the already built opulent buildings at the periphery.
