The "Carbon" area has brought advantages as well as disadvantages to the ancient Italian city of Ascoli Piceno. On the one hand, it meant work and economic wealth, on the other hand, it brought a high level of pollution and environmental damage. An analysis of urban development and the city is carried out in the first part of this work, focusing on the effects of the implementation and the termination of the industrial enterprise as well as on the natural and rural context of the city itself. In a further step, the analysis is used to interpret the tendencies of the economic and social development of the city and to draw up an urban design. According to a sustainable ("green") development, the old industrial area is being renovated and rethought in order to meet the needs of the city and create a new centrality at local and regional level. The "Carbon" area, as it has been in the past, is still the stage and the center of the development of the city, which can and will promote its cultural, artistic, gastronomic and environmental heritage.
