The population of the Rhine Valley is growing! The Rhine Valley is one of the most growing regions in Austria. Due to the increasing population, it is expected that the use of land for settlements, transport and economic purposes will further increase. However, the expansion area in the Rhine Valley is restricted for further settlement growth. Geographical, site-related conditions and limited available building areas make it difficult to re-supply suitable building land for settlements. In addition, the existing settlement structure in the Rhine Valley already includes a large number of built-up and undeveloped reserves which could be better utilized. Finally, internal development and post-compaction are regarded as a planning response to the extensive use of land and its far-reaching consequences. The aim of this work is to explore planning tools for internal development and post-compaction as well as the illustration of the current and future development of important internal reserves in the Rhine Valley. Finally, a specific draft on a certain district is also developed in order to demonstrate possibilities for internal development and post-compaction.
