Due to the growth of european cities and the more heterogeneous ways of living, residential highrise buildings become overmore popular. Also the city of Vienna follows this trend and the current design proposal transforms a property nearby the river Danube into a highrise residential site. In this case the current planning regulations concerning the urban development as well as the particular requirements of highrise buildings are being discussed and applied in this work. Therefore the creation of synergies between the building and the neighbourhood are focussed. The ground level houses a sports center and acts as an interface between the residentials and the neighbours of the district. The complex also comprises a bridge combined with a swimming pool over the road 'Handelskai', which leads to the river. Therefore the district is better connected to the Danube and the adjacent green space. The difference between the big scale of the river landscape and the smaller scale of the city structure as well as the environmental influences determine the cubature, the design of the facade and the implementation of the flats. A certain quality (of light) in the corridors and numerous spaces for the community should lead to a lively exchange between the neighbours. Another emphasis is the creation of private, wind-protected outdoor spaces, even in higher areas of the building.
