This thesis deals with transport policy measures and mobility apps promoting environmentally friendly transport modes in Vienna. It is organised into two parts: a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part contains an introduction, definitions and theoretical foundations. Mode choice models used in research about short distance transportation, factors influencing the means of transportation and the influence of information and communications technology, especially mobility apps are discussed. Next, important transport policy measures promoting environmentally friendly transport modes in Vienna (enforced between 1970 and 2016) are illustrated. Based on this, the development of selected mobility indicators is analysed. Finally, there will be an outline and analysis of mobility apps. Based on the theoretical part, an online survey investigates the influence of mobility apps and transport policy measures on the choice of transport mode in Vienna. Additionally, essential needs for using environmentally friendly means of transport are explored. The final part of the thesis encompasses a summary and an overall conclusion drawn from the conducted analysis.
