Against the background of sustainable urban redensification city water appears as a new form of territory for architectural use. especially the docks of old city harbours, which became useless for their primary function, offer a pretty high potential for water adaptive developments. representative for those harbour areas all over europe, this master thesis focuses on the Winterhafen in Linz that is connected to the river danube. following the dutch model of floating architecture, a new urban floating district will be created. the close relationship with the river danube, the industrial charm of the docklands and the influence that comes with the rising cultural scene creates synergies that are to be picked up and amplified by the addition of new functions near and especially on the water. Taking account of the city`s goals in urban development and the ambition to reinforce the global reputation of a modern cultural city next to the river, a functional bundling center shall serve as a place for intercultural exchange, utilized by inhabitants as well as tourists and supports the integration of the Winterhafen into the urban fabric.
