My thesis deals with flexible, small, and mobile dwelling boxes. Like Yona Friedmans` influential conceptual design La Ville Spatiale there is a stable multi-storey grid. It is fixed and builds the constructive framework for the different dwelling units, which in my work are mobile. Each box can be moved vertically and horizontally, in order to change its location within the framework, e.g. to go from Vienna to Berlin. It thus functions like a mobile home. This project of accommodation takes up recent developments in our globalized, postindustrial societies, as in urban regions living space is getting more and more expensive, and work forces are expected to be more and more flexible. Furthermore consumers constantly demand new products. The dwelling boxes can easily be adapted and changed according to different tastes and needs. Sanitary units or furniture are built into the construction of each box, which means that exchanging one element can make the dwelling box function and look differently. In a nutshell, this work thus develops Friedman`s utopian conception further and reformulates it according to the contemporary needs of our times.
