At the moment, Vienna is one of the fastest-growing cities in Europe. Thus and due to the need of new pedagogical methods there is high demand of educational facilities. The administration of Vienna tries to react with big scale school campuses. Through the demographic development, especially in the city extension areas, there is still a temporary lack in the need of educational facilities. Due to their size, the campus schools cannot always cover this additional demand. At the same time, the use of buildings ground floor levels is difficult. A utilisation by a flexible, social infrastructure would make sense, for example by kindergarten, school or assisted living. The financing of new educational infrastructure is another problem of the city administration of Vienna. At the moment, there are not enough funds to finance the necessary projects. So the city tries to change to PPP- Models (Public Private Partnership- Models). In this case, for educational facilities in the base of other used buildings, it would be a reasonable solution, for example: a developer rents to the administration of schools (MA 56). An area of education (german: Bildungsbereich, short: BIBER) in the base of buildings (german: Sockel) should not be a compromise of financial troubles by school politics and useless urban development. A "SockelBiBer" should be developed according to actual pedagogical methods to upgrade the educational infrastructure and urban areas. For this purpose it is necessary to expand the typologies of school to the typology -SockelBiBer-. The aim of this thesis is to develop the typology -SockelBiBer- in a study, which could be the base for future competitions or urban developments. The conclusion of the thesis should be verified by conceptual designs.
