In southern spain in the community of Nerja we find six watchtowers (torres vigía) from the 16.-18.century which are listed buildings. These watchtowers are part of a visually connected tower system as it has been customary to control the coast. These towers are positioned in exposed locations so their guards could transmit the alarm as quick as possible. During my academic year in southern Spain I have got to know the region around Nerja. The towers which along the coast are omnipresent, give a special character to the region. Because of its very rugged coast with numerous bays in a length of 13km, Nerja owns a huge number of towers. After numerous talks with the inhabitants from the region, who had little to tell about the history of the towers, developed the idea to this project. This work deals with the planning of a visitor center which offers information for visitors as well as locals. It informs about the history of the region. The location is a public area adjacent to the ruins of the only tower placed in the urbanization of nerja town "Torrecilla de Nerja" which is from the 18th century.
