FLOW ON is an urban master-project dealing with the question, how architecture changes over time and adapts to its environment. First, a new housing complex, fulfilling the space desires of its residents, is planned in Bissen, a small village in the middle of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg. On the other hand, new functions and applications are assigned to the nearby old mill premises. High Flexibility and the diversified nature should enhance a high living standard combined with a pleasant work environment. The protection against the omnipresent threat of floods, the preservation of the harmonic townscape and the conservation of the recent renaturation of the river "Attert" are the most important criteria of this project. The newly designed homes with their playfully shaped saddle roofs fit in seamlessly with the existing, homogenous environment. By elevating the new buildings and creating open spaces for the residents on the lower levels, the water damage caused by the floods will be minimized. To preserve the historical character of the old mill, the selective modifications of the facades are limited to the strict minimum. The interior and the roof structure of the manor house and the surrounding mill buildings are maintained. Whereas a major part of these premises is transformed into "Start Up" spaces, offices and ateliers, the remaining spaces are optimized for modern and attractive living. The goal of this project is to create a place to live and work in harmony with a multi-layered environment and nature.
