During the course of the Donau regulation between 1868 and 1875, also the Donau-canal in Vienna has been redesigned. A line of watergates and weir systems has been planned along the canal. In the beginning only the Nussdorfer-Wehr; at the origin of the canal has been constructed and later on, between 1904 and 1908, the Kaiserbad-Wehr was built. It is located next to underground station Schottenring. The Kaiserbad-Wehr includes a watergate and a weir system, which are separated by a man-made island. In 1945 the weir has been hit by a bomb and afterwards pulled down. Since then, only the island and parts of the watergate exist. This Island is located in the center of Vienna, next to the important public transportation station Schottenring. Most of the sights in Vienna can easily be reached by walking or without changing means of transportation, therefore an ideal place for a hotel.
