In this work, the possible ecological and economical relevance of magnetocaloric materials in technical applications is described. The mathematical relations among the thermodynamical quantities which are essential for the magnetocaloric effect are given. For two of these quantities, the adiabatic temperature change and the specific heat, the used measuring techniques are explained. The setting of an adiabatic working measuring system, which can measure both quantities, is displayed and the results are presented. A comparison with results gained from other sources forms the conclusion.
