Today, the topic computer science is present during our whole life including private and work life. Therefore, it is of great importance to acquire the necessary knowledge as soon as possible.
Currently, the transfer of the required computer science skills can only be guaranteed for all pupils of the grammar school in the 9th grade.
However, the informatics syllabus used for this grade offers the teachers a lot of space in organising their educational contents. As a consequence, the question what is really taught in this subject arises.
In addition, it would be interesting to know, if there are trends towards some educational contents and teaching methods as well as if this informatics education sufficiently prepares the pupils for their later private and work life. This raises the question if a standardisation of the informatics education would be necessary. The answers to these questions were found using results from interviews and from a quantitative teacher and pupil survey carried out on all grammar schools in Austria. According to this, almost every informatics education is different from each other whereas a resemblance of some educational contents exists. The contents word processing, spreadsheet and presentation are taught in almost every informatics education.
According to the results of this work, it would be recommendable to introduce a standard for the informatics education in Austria.
