The Institute for Engineering and Technology at the Vienna University of Technology explore for years into the fibre-reinforced polymers aramid. As a part of this test programms we created in the laboratory T-beams of ultra high performance concrete. The beams were immediately prestressed with composite. Aramid is the reinforcement material into the beams. In the experiments the beams will be loaded to failure. Fresh concrete tests, compression tests and bendig tests are parts of the concrete quality inspection. The fresh concrete test include the flowability, the concrete density and the air content.
Furthermore the aramid composite properties were determined from concrete blocks with concreted aramidrods. The fibre-reinforced polymers aramid is connected to the ultra-high strength concrete by a defined length. The composite test was made with pullout tests. The main point of the bond tests from aramid into ultra high performance concrete is the adhesive bond. The bond of the surface is not so strong as the tension, because aramid has in direction of the longitudinal axis an very strong tensile strength. By the tests of the T-beams are the shear failure authoritative for the strength, because the beams are broken on the place were the force get into the beams. Shear cracks are responsible for this breaks.
