Agirman, E. (2013). The impact of thermal retrofit on daylight in buildings [Master Thesis, Technische Universität Wien]. reposiTUm. https://resolver.obvsg.at/urn:nbn:at:at-ubtuw:1-54078
Buildings are responsible for up to 40% of energy consumption in the EU. Therefore thermal insulation plays a big role on building refurbishment.<br />However, requirements for reduction of heating (and probably cooling) demand might influence some other parameters of the buildings, such as daylight penetration and solar gains. For instance by insulating a building, transmission losses are reduced but due to a reduction of the effective area of windows, daylight penetration as well as solar gain will be influenced. To serve as a starting point for future activities, this study is constructed on construction details that are easily adapted to similar situations and commonly used in Austria. Different combinations of windows and insulation details are considered and evaluated by taking visual performances into account. Potential solutions of windowwall-joints are discussed and analyzed concerning daylight.
