Without process control systems we could not live our life as we are used to do now. Process control systems are needed in many areas of our daily life, as well in public as in private belongings, such as buildings, traffic and transport, production of goods and energysupplyment. The first part of the present diploma thesis describes what process control systems are, how they were developed and all the components needed to build a process control system. In the next part production-, building- and traffic-control-systems will be presented.
Control systems for the electric grid and for electrical energy production in power stations will be shown in detail in the following chapter. Here the control tasks, operation modes, tasks for selv-consumption and for protection shall be specified. The next part describes energy-autarkic settlements and smart grids. At first, the diploma-thesis will show what smart grids are. The reasons for the development and the components like smart meters, smart homes and future-settlements will be shown. The following step specifies the challenges for the control-systems, brought from the current developments in electric grids. Here shall future and additional assignments of control-systems be shown. At next, the difficulties to meet these assignments will be specified. The last part describes possible solutions to cope with the difficulties and to fulfill all the tasks. As a conclusion, current development projects will be presented.
