The acceleration society is a problematic phenomenon which can only be solved by a restructuring of society as well as its attitude towards modernity and its principles. However, humanity seems to be far from realizing this fact and is, consequently, rather defined by the duality of acceleration and deceleration than by the willingness to restructure. The building design developed in the framework of the present thesis tries to take up this idea of societal development and to respond to this problematic situation.
The accelerated, restless, faceless, and lost individuals of the modern age get the possibility to escape the acceleration spiral for a short time and to take the road towards "the own self" within the leisure center presented in this thesis. Zeitgeist-tormented individuals can go on a quest for their identity and allow themselves to take a short break from stressful everyday life in this "spiritual spa", a place of deceleration where a return to virtues like leisure and silence takes place.
