According to the regional forecast of the Austrian Conference on Spatial Planning for the years 2010-2030 Vienna¿s commuter belt will be the fastest growing region over the next few years. The city Korneuburg, as part Vienna¿s commuter belt, will face major challenges in the coming years. Against the background of a relatively small community area and scarce reserves of building land, the city has a special role. Based on urban analysis, it is observable that the area around the train station is especially relevant for the town. Due to the close proximity to the city center and the train station, redensification in this area seems particularly suitable. Using this part of the city it is prototypically demonstrated how a certain settlement area is sustainably planned and developed. Besides the determination of the redensification potential in different scenarios, urban planning are proposed, expected developments are simulated and essential control mechanisms demonstrate the chance of sustainable urban development.
