Wilhelmsburg, a district in Hamburg, became the setting of an international construction exhibition between 2007 and 2013. The district was declared to be perceived as a prospective developmental area within the port city - Hamburg. Following the termination of the exhibition, the city government decided to repurpose a former industrial canal in western Wilhelmsburg into a cultural canal. Their proposition aims at the facilitation of creative economy as well as an increase in quality of time spent along the canal. On this occasion, the present thesis initially elicits potential or challenges of the surrounding district and finally proposes a construction design of a cultural building.
