As a part of the urban development of the village center of Lech am Arlberg, the former post area will be rebuild into a new community center. In place of the existing garage and the post office building a new 'Village reception' is planned, where among other facilities, a community and post office, a tourist office, a multipurpose hall as well as a music school and a rehearsal room for the Lech's traditional band will be situated. The aim is to provide a central service center for the citizens as well as the large number of employees and guests, who spend their holiday in this renowned ski resort especially during the winter season. At the same time, the traffic situation should be improved and an urban solution be found that will enhance an revive the new village center. This would mean to relieve the currently heavily frequented promenade and shift the tourist area also in this direction. The sustainable orientation of the village is also reflected in the project. For this reason, local building materials were used in the designing process, the heating system was connected to the local biomass power plant and the architecture was adapted to the climate conditions. This new dominant is to stand as a modern representative landmark, however at the same time it should be cautiously integrated into the local landscape as well as it has to respect the highly valued image of a traditional village.
