Tyurk, M. (2017).

The production process of asphalt involves a considerable amount of energy consump-tion because of the high temperatures required for the mixture process. This issue gains importance, especially when considering mastic asphalt, for which production tempera-tures up to 220 250 C. Decreasing these temperatures could lead to more energy effi-ciency and reduction of the greenhouse gases (GHG) in the asphalt mixing plant. Aim of the research is the optimization of mastic asphalt mixes by maximum decrease of the temperature and by constantly high performance for the application of garage pave-ments. For that reason, the mastic asphalt mixture is optimized with rounded aggregates and amide wax and its performance is examined with the help of laboratory testing meth-ods. The applied testing methods within this thesis are divided into workability and perfor-mance based tests. The investigation of the workability is achieved by means of torque measurement and flow table test. The performance based tests, applied in the course of this work, are the tensile stress restrained specimen test (TSRST) and uniaxial cyclic compression test (UCCT). The results show that through optimization a good workability at reduced temperatures (-50 K) can be accomplished. Furthermore, the optimization doesn`t affect the low-temperature resistance and still satisfactory resistance at the high temperature range can be observed.
