dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
Assembly occupies a special position in the development of Industrie 4.0. Due to the proximity to the market, assembly systems must be designed capable of change. In course of Industrie 4.0 this is encountered by using cyber-physical systems (CPS). These systems are characterized by the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and lead to increased integration of man, machine and organization. The usage of such systems in assembly leads to the term cyber-physical assembly systems (CPMS). CPMS are represented by visual assistant systems and collaborative robots. Due to complex applications it is difficult to assess the benefits of such systems. For this assessment the relevant literature provides no assistance on the operating level, leading to the aim of this thesis. A practically oriented assessment methodology is developed, which is used to select CPS, and is executed in the example of collaborative robots. Based on the literature review, current challenges and future developments in the field of assembly and CPS are identified. The lessons learned are used to derive requirements on the assessment methodology. These requirements serve to identify relevant assessment methodologies targeting the objective of this thesis and help in evaluation of their suitability. The result is a combination of a qualitative, multi-criteria methodology - as the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) or the cost-utility analysis - with monetary considerations as a suitable procedure. The developed methodology is examined in the course of a validation for plausibility and compliance with the mentioned requirements. Despite higher efforts in executing the methodology compared to the cost-utility analysis, the use of an adapted QFD methodology has proven to match the requirements in a better way. This is due to increased objectivity and the ability to serve as a tool for a better differentiation of the observed alternatives. In future work it will be necessary to evaluate the methodology in the field and extend it to other areas of application. This allows for a representation of the benefits of CPS compared to conventional alternatives.
