Das Thema dieser Diplomarbeit ist der Entwurf eines Mutter-Kind-Spitals in der Stadt Mouila in Gabun, Afrika. Ziel des geplanten Geburtshilfe- und Diagnosezentrums ist die Gewaehrleistung der diagnostischen Behandlung sowie der Versorgung der Patienten gemaess dem Stand der Technik mit ihren umfassenden und vorbeugenden Massnahmen. Neben Schwangerschaftsvorsorge, Geburtshilfe, Behandlung von geburtshilflichen Notfaellen und die Sensibilisierung fuer Infektionskrankheiten waehrend der Schwangerschaft, bietet das geplante Krankenhaus zusaetzlich eine eigene Tagesambulanz fuer Kinder inklusive Notfallaufnahme. Der Bauplatz liegt in der subtropischen Klimazone Gabuns in direkter Aequatornaehe. Das Bauen mit lokalen Materialien und die ausreichende Beruecksichtigung von oertlichen Gegebenheiten, wie Klima, Tradition und Kultur, sind wesentliche Grundlagen bei der Herangehensweise an dieses Projekt.

The topic of this thesis is the design of a Mother and Child Hospital in the city of Mouila, Gabon. The aim of the Obstetric and Diagnostic Centre is to ensure patient access to comprehensive and holistic diagnostic services and clinical care in accordance with state of the art practices and technological capacities. In addition to prenatal care, obstetric and midwifery services, emergency obstetric care, and public health information campaigns regarding infectious diseases during pregnancy, the facility also offers an outpatient department for infants, including a dedicated emergency department. The building site is located in the subtropical ecoregion of Gabon and lies within two latitudinal degrees of the equator. Use of local materials and sufficient consideration of the climatic, traditional and cultural context serve as cornerstones of the project approach.
