dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
The presented thesis is based on recent discussions concerning a new indoor swimming facility for the Upper Austrian district Rohrbach. Due to the closing of the former natatorium in Haslach in June 2012 a lack of opportunities for e.g. teaching swimming in schools is given in the investigated region. Based on regional studies about population and settlement developments, as part of the methodological approach of the presented work, the necessity for establishing such a sport facility should be highlighted. Moreover an appropriate place for construction should be detected. Aim of the presented design concept is the development of an indoor swimming facility incorporating a neighbouring near natural bathing area along a river. Special emphasis is given in the concept to preserve the natural status of the selected place, especially due to the optical incorporation of the main building design into the surrounding landscape. The building site is immediately located at the Gr. Mühl river containing a wide spread recreational area including soccer fields, tennis courts, skate park and a restaurant in the present situation. Due to the same base level of the planned indoor swimming facility, the recreational area and the banks of the river a mix of different areas is given which may benefit from each other. The connectivity of the natural bathing area along the river with the surrounding overbank recreational places and the elevated structural parts of the swimming facility should allow to keep the natural picture of the surrounding landscape.
