dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
The drastically decreasing costs of photovoltaic systems in combination with intensified funding lead to further expansion of installed photovoltaic systems in size throughout the past years. Major parts of the available roof spaces are used for photovoltaic systems. For this reason other kinds of solar-thermal systems can be ruled out. The purpose of this master thesis is to fathom the maximum capacity of economical use by researching and analyzing the optimal roof space allocation of photovoltaic systems, as well as solar thermal systems of different consumer types. Therefore a linear optimization model has been designed for pellet heating systems, as well as heat pump systems, which aims to minimize the capital value. The model's results indicates the optimum installation area of photovoltaic - and solar thermal systems, and the optimal usage of energy sources for satisfying the demands of different consumer types. Further results are derived by a sensitivity analysis with following input parameters: energy prices, required rate of return, investment costs, and heat requirement. A rise of energy prices above 4% indicates that pellet heating systems combined with solar thermal- and photovoltaic systems lead to an optimized performance. The area ratio between technologies is strongly dependent on consumer types. Further results of this thesis shows the reduction of costs related to roof space of solar thermal systems is higher, compared to photovoltaic systems, even though the specific requirements for space are less. If the consumer possesses a heat pump, solely usage of PV is the most economical solution.
