dc.description.abstract
This thesis deals with the investigation of the throughput of material flow systems. The aim is the development of a planning tool which is based on discrete-event system simulation. This tool should make it possible to determine the necessary technical throughput of material flow elements. Thereby a demanded throughput of the system should be achieved. This simulation tool is realized by the interactive employment of the three software packages ARENA, Visual Basic for Applications und Microsoft Excel. The necessary technical throughput is determined by use of an iteration loop. On the other hand the developed planning tool can also be used for common simulation runs. In this case the throughput will be examined for a certain system configuration.
In both applications it is possible to consider failures of the elements, buffer with limited capacities and redundancies of means of transport and working stations.
In order to be able to provide the simulation models rapidly and user friendly, modules are developed in the course of this paper. These modules are archived in a library, so that they can arbitrarily often be used. The input of the parameter values takes place in clearly arranged dialogue boxes.
After an extensive validation of the modules the efficiency of the planning instrument is demonstrated by some examples. The simulation results are compared with the results of analytical methods. The disadvantage of these methods is, that they can only be used if certain conditions are fulfilled.
By means of these examples it can be shown that the necessary technical throughput of the material flow elements is affected substantially by the failure behaviour of the elements, by the buffer capacities and the locations of the buffers in the plant, as well as by the distribution functions of the process times and the system structure (with/without redundancies).
